unvoiced 2* in a tokyo apartment trying to weld end-of-service anime characters into playstation 1 party games

hurrying this out while waiting for my laundry to finish, after a sequence of events that unfolded like:

  • I need to go to the conbini to pick up something
  • drop a bowl onto a commemorative plate and panic
  • plate seems fine
  • oh yeah I need to go outside
  • go to the wrong conbini, they don't have what I need
  • walk past home on the way to the right conbini
  • I'm inside my apartment now
  • ???

in conclusion brain rattle is like that but at least now I also have some sodium for my head

christmas was fairly low key here as I didn't have nor really want any plans - I spent the first half of the day treating my apartment to a christmas gift of Deep Cleaning, which felt pretty nice (and resulted in some staged clean pictures) except for when I knocked a full coffee pot off the counter while cleaning the stove too fervently and spent an hour wiping up glass and coffee... but it only stained the rug and didn't damage anything else (including me) so I guess that's a positive

I spent the afternoon thinking about what to spend my furusato nozei** on this year, a mutual got a realforce keyboard which is kind of interesting (as I'm a little tired of my 60% which was purchased for a much smaller desk... going for something with arrow keys would have been a way smarter idea) but it's JP layout only so I won't actually consider that. will probably go with the tradition of getting a bunch of rice and fruits and sweets throughout the year, and maybe travel gift certificates to fill up the rest. keeping it flexible. did you know you can also donate to round 1 (which I'm, tbh, considering, since I do about 2 or 3 spochas a year)

** furuzato nozei is that japanese tax thing where you get to redirect about 1-3% of your paycheck to whatever prefecture gives the funniest gift in return (with a limit of 30% of the value of your donation), and take the resulting donation straight out of your taxes. effectively it is free stuff in return to loaning your money to the government

in the evening I continued Sports Story, a game which is now less valuable than working on my own projects, because it is just sort of like what if Golf Story had a wider scope but also much less polish in every regard, from UI to quest design to the actual golf mechanics and it's really unexplainable in every way other than, as friend of the blog frosh points out, the crack theory*** that all the designers and developers secretly changed in between the two games

*** the credits for og golf story name "sidebar games" and then like five people for art/music. sidebar games is credited to two people in australia who are have done a handful of interviews and have no social media presence, but really it's hard to tell

I'm not NOT having fun with Sports Story but I think I'm mostly motivated by the potential of being the first person ever to finish the game, after getting out of the second (?) part of the game (Tennis Academy) without hitting the game-breaking bugs that most players seem to have reached, and discovering that the youtuber that streamed 10 hours of the game appears to have given up "because it's not fun". maybe then I can get to the bottom of this.

christmas food: tonkatsu for lunch, homemade taco rice for dinner, and the christmas cozy princess personal-size cake from ginza cozy corner
