i make indie games

unvoiced 2* in a tokyo apartment trying to weld end-of-service anime characters into playstation 1 party games

back to work today, so a relatively quiet day in terms of updates.

a friend came over to the apartment and I saw a steam deck in person for the first time. for how much this thing was clowned on at announcement, it does feel nicer in the hands than a switch

with the switch and my phone, I have a really bad case of Smartphone Pinky where I sort of rest my left pinky underneath the device to grip it properly with my left hand, which leaves a sort of uncomfortable dent that makes me feel like a dummy. steam deck doesn't seem like it'd do that which is neat, and I appreciate how many buttons this thing has

anyway there's not a large enough chunk of games that I would need to play portably that I couldn't play on something portable I already have. for more information check me out every time I FTP to my Vita so I can copy a converted emulator save file to it and continue playing PS1 games on the go

also went to Akiba tonight to eat (tsukemen, nice but I think one of the noodles I'd pick less) and play a few games with a friend. had a moment where I was trying to do 2P matching on SDVX and some other people were trying to do 2P matching on SDVX and we ended up accidentally rolling together a 4P ball. I'm surprised this has never happened to me before (then again where are there 4 cabs in the US)

in reply to @canon's post:

Going from 2 usable cabs to 0 usable cabs (because progression was impossible on J:A:A builds outside of Japan) to 1 usable cab (once you go Valk you really can't go back) at our local R1 has really made me realize that the main reason I played Volte was social: I loved matching with friends and helping them progress too. Playing by myself is just like...okay

Would love to have four cabs at a single venue in the US at some point again...heck, I forget if PHM ever had 4 back in the early days of 3. I think it did. I thiiiink it did.

god trying to catch up with sdvx whenever I take long breaks is so "please be like any other bemani game and give us old content for free". as an aside I also think a lot about song discoverability problems in modern bemani

but yeah I hear you on social, arcades are hard as hell to hear people but it's a lot of fun to carry and push people through things and there's that element of "hey do you wanna see something wild" whenever you show someone a new chart. I have a lot of fond memories of 2 or 3 people rotations on single cabs also since watching someone play is also a great way to hype them up (and lets me cool down) but also like... I have a phone I am going to touch my phone too much now oops
