I think it's well time Joe Biden gave us Americans another $3000 but I don't think it's gonna happen. For one, the ostensible justification that we're still in a pandemic has been largely abandoned by this country's population.

I think a lot of the reason we needed to pretend the pandemic was over was that the stopgap fixes that improved life (giving people money no questions asked, certain healthcare for free at the point of service, postponing debt collection) were never something that made sense to do temporarily at all: they’re just like normal things a social democratic country should do for its citizenry. America has been so stripped for parts that this increase in state capacity lead by crisis completely broke the brains of the “the era of big government is over” types like Biden and his ilk. They assumed there’d be some neat time to end this and go back to normal bc after all, it’s not like a significant part of the country just doesn’t have money at all right. And then, shocker, not only does all this aid basically immediately help everyone but it also leads the citizenry to immediately ask for more. It gave a lot of people the freedom to suddenly start thinking about things like protest and ya know burning the Minneapolis police department’s 3rd precinct. But because the only reason congress went along with those social democratic measures is that they were tied to a massive giveaway to the rich, which is what they were really after, while people like Rashida Tlalib and Ilhan Omar managed to cram stuff for regular people in there. Once the rich didn’t need another crisis handout, and the effects of actually providing services to people made themselves clear (people ask and expect the government to do things for its citizenry) there just straight up are not enough votes in congress from people who care to push that stuff through

We rightfully give boomers a lot of shit, but the one thing their generation got right was crazy hi-fi systems. Look at that shit. Cool as hell. Imagine getting home from work and blasting your Peter Gabriel tapes on this.

Now in 2024 your average consumer options are:

  1. bluetooth headphones
  2. plastic orb that spies on you

The fuck man. bring these back
