i think one of the biggest problem in leftist spaces is that bc we're all so used to dealing with culture war bullshit that it's poisoned our thought processes. a disagreement can't just be a disagreement, it has to be an ideological debate. i understand not wanting to be civil about serious things but I'll see full-blown arguments about the dumbest fucking shit, with both people in it basically accusing the other of insane nonsense just because of a difference of opinion on a subject that just does not matter.
it's especially a problem with Americans, i think, bc we're indoctrinated into this insane cultish individualist belief system from an early age, and a lot of leftists still haven't outgrown it, but you see it everywhere...
sometimes i think the postmodernist adage "everything is political" did a lot of damage. not because it's wrong but because people seem incapable of understanding that some things are much less important than others. yeah technically choosing a type of orange at the grocery store is a political action but it just doesn't fucking matter. someone asking you to put a content warning on your internet post for an extremely common PTSD trigger isn't oppression.
close your laptop, turn off your phone, shut down your desktop. just go walk outside for a bit, just a few minutes, and calm down.
please just be nice to each other, we're all tired and sad and have been hurt in so many ways by our hellish society and there's no reason to hurt each other further.
