September 26, pretty sure my calendar had a Real Holiday I can write about for today. Let's go take a look!

oh goddammit

*squints closer* what the shit, why just W AUS?... ok yeah that's pretty good

...AHEM

On this day, apparently, Western Australia celebrates the Queen King of England having to wait the queue for her his own birthday party!

Commonwealth countries celebrate the birthday of their monarch, as one does. That one makes sense, I can't rib them too much. Queen Elizabeth II was born in February and Charles III was born in November, but most countries that celebrate this choose to do so in May or June because of *checks notes* prettier weather. I guess when you're King you can just decide you're born on a better day.

In Australia, most states also happen to celebrate it in June, despite it being winter down there, because that was George V's actual birthday and they didn't feel like changing it when he died. During Queen Elizabeth II's reign the holiday was officially called "Queen's Birthday" despite the fact that really, they're celebrating the birthday of a different king.

This day also happens to be when Western Australia celebrates Western Australia Day. I'm not an expert on these things but I assume that's kind of a big deal for them. Naturally, the King's Birthday gets moved to whenever Western Australia feels like it.

What day specifically? Like I said, whenever Western Australia feels like it. The official date is decided by the Governor of Western Australia every year, making this one of the rare and highly-coveted "Just Vibes"-based recurring holidays used in the Western world.
