The fact remains that many players can’t blow 8 dollars on a single card, or even 3 or 4, as seems to be common among auction prices I have seen.
This is not 12 months removed from some powerful Alpha rares like Black Lotus hitting $50+
[4-card limits] don’t work. If you say no more than 4 or a given card, you’re going to get a player who puts in 4 lords of the pit. In fact, there was a limited tournament where the winner played more of a given rare card than I have. SO much for making skill a factor, and eliminating money.
This leads to a discussion of whether or not Lord of the Pit is a good card you should play even one of, let alone 4. My guy asserts that what you do is play Circle of Protection: Black to prevent your own Lord of the Pit damage.
Keep in mind that Serra Angel on turn 5 kills exactly as fast as Lord of the Pit on turn 7.
[On a proposed set of tournament rules] It also limits the two card decks(plague rats/sinkhole, psychic venom/twiddle, etc.) that take most of the fun out of the game.
What sick bastard was playing Psychic Venom/Twiddle in a format where 28 Lightning Bolts and 12 Mountains was legal
