you may have noticed that big stupid banner on steam that says "WARHAMMER SKULLS". You may have clicked on it, and went "oh god, why are there so many of these games?" So i thought id post a few that are both good and pretty cheap.

apologies in advance for this post sucking I blame having fucking covid, though it'd probably suck regardless.

VERMINTIDE 2
It's a coop game in the style of left4dead, but with a lot more melee action, where you fight off swarms of man sized rats, or skaven, through medieval castles, dwarf fortresses and ruined cities. Very fun game, hitting rats in the face with big meaty hammers, swords and pyromancy is good. It's $5:99 and i think easy to recommend if you have friends who would be into this sort of game.

There IS also it's scifi version, Darktide. With better feeling guns. But, that one is still pretty new and thus, more expensive even if it's on sale too, and I haven't really played it much. I think it was kind of a mess at launch, it may be better now idk

MECHANICUS

From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the Blessed Machine. Your kind cling to your flesh, as though it will not decay and fail you. One day the crude biomass you call the temple will wither, and you will beg my kind to save you. But I am already saved, for the Machine is immortal

I think this is one of the best 40k games I've played. That's not the highest bar in the world or anything, but I still really like it.
The mechanicus are a cult/major political power that worships technology and its adherants will usually happily replace any part of themselves they can with machines. In the main hub between missions you can have conversations with your advisors who all argue about what to do about the necron tomb you're attempting to stop. They all speak in this distorted computer noises and it's a genius move, tbh. It adds so much to their vibes. Look at this guy. they've ascended beyond the need for feeble english.

The missions are part turn based Strategy battles (think an Xcom), and tomb exploration in between the fights where you make choices that can either benefit you, like finding a new weapon, or trigger a booby trap in this necron tomb. All while a timer keeps ticking as the necrons get more awake and angry that you're on their lawn.

OTHER MENTIONS

UH

The dawn of war games are pretty classic RTS. I dont have much to say because I havent really played them much, but if RTS is your think take a look. Dark Crusade is I think the general go to to recommend, but you're probably fine with any, just avoid Dawn of war 3.

i dont know how to compress my thoughts on the total war games in a short enough time frame for me to not be annoyed i'm not done posting this yet. Total Warhammer 3 is a colossal game, and very fun in my opinion. It is on game pass though, so i might recommend if you have GamePass try it there first.

uh

i played a few hours of battlefleet gothic armada 2 over the past few days specifically to try and quantify thoughts and I still cant decide if I think this game is good. I did find out the games studio, Tindalos, are making that new Alien Tactics game? So, based on battlefleet gothic, there's a decent chance that game will have great sounds.

theres to many of these games, stop making them.
