ok, it's not actually an official bandcamp friday, but cohost's lack of a character limit provides me an excellent opportunity to write as much as i want about the music i want to recommend! so, what i'm picking up today is:

"royal blue walls" by jane remover

royal blue walls is the first single from jane remover, who last year under the name dltzk released one of the absolute best albums of the year, frailty. jane remover's music is bursting with details and textures. this track is missing some of the genre-hopping antics that made frailty so special, but it's layered and noisy and ambitious all the same. jane remover is easily one of the most exciting artists out there right now.

"sometimes, forever" by soccer mommy

soccer mommy's music has always been fine, but has never particularly captivated me. i've appreciated how she's gotten more ambitious with each release, and sometimes, forever is no exception, as evidenced by the fact that the album was produced in its entirety by experimental electronic musician oneohtrix point never. some tracks, like "bones," recall earlier soccer mommy releases, but others are more unique, like the lurching, industrial "unholy affliction." overall, a really interesting release, and i really admire soccer mommy for continuing to push the boundaries of her sound.

"ugly death no redemption angel curse i love you" by ada rook

ada rook is best known for her work as half of the industrial/electronic duo black dresses, but her solo work is every bit as strange, boundary pushing, and vital. rook is truly an artist without limitations, she makes industrial music that reminds me of SOPHIE's impassioned claim during a radio interview that there is no kind of music other than dance pop, and anyone who says otherwise is a liar. industrial synth music can be dance pop, grindcore can be dance pop, anything can be and is dance pop.
