There is acutally drone footage of the very moment it collapsed too. iirc they were doing inspections on it to see how fast it was degrading and things they could maybe do to save it but then it saw the camera and decided to go out in a dramatic fashion. I cant remember why they didn't rebuild it but I think it was just about costs and other things being "good enough",,,, its so sad because it could do some niche thats that no other telescope could do, kinda like that plane based SOPHIA thing, but they're rly spensive and rly niche

also that is sad to know that there were some niche uses it had that others :( cest la vivre I guess
