actually “run a weird kernel you have to build from source” is something nix makes astonishingly easy
you’re still gonna have to dig through nixpkgs source though
you're right that it was surprisingly not bad at all to build a live iso with a specific release candidate! wow, heck yeah nixos :)
it was thankfully just the computer that sits hooked up to the living room tv, and all the stuff on it is backed up! so it wouldn't have been a big loss :)
