i'm looking at my bird book and it looks similar to a juvenile black-crowned night-herons
(they don't occur round here, if you're looking make sure you're looking at south-east queensland)

yeah 😅 most of my birb photos are through a pair of binoculars. women need an actual camera
I think it's an olive-backed oriole (Oriolus sagittatus): adults have a red beak, but checking photos, they develop the red eye while the beak is still dark, so looks good for a subadult. I forget where you're at, are you in range of them?
