something i'm going to miss when twitter actually for-real kicks the bucket is the lack of being able to follow international artists. I've got plenty of folk on my feed there that don't speak english, yet they're still on the platform. It was a real melting pot, y'know?
and i don't see them talking about bsky or cohost or even tumblr, really.

the sole benefit to twitter was that it survived long enough that EVERYONE knew about it. now even when everyone agrees on a single platform to migrate to instead of splitting up, i really doubt I'm going to see a lot of those guys again.

I feel this way about a lot of international artists that I followed on twitter, especially Japanese artists. None of them have seemed interested in migrating elsewhere.

Yeah sure we can talk about what's better all day but ultimately twitter being no longer a place everyone uses has just severed connections permanently and that's never a good thing.

And I have very choice opinions about the way this place handles connections too but I'm glad at the very least there's more then one option to explore atm

I feel like this is a symptom of an overall problem that is hitting all of humanity. Too often these days are we quick to dismiss possible alternatives. There are a billion other websites for video hosting and yet we stick to YouTube. There are a trillion other social media sites and yet people are going bluesy aka also Twitter. We have options but we as a people seem unwilling to use them and the main reason seems to be "everyone is here" rather than "that place is somehow worse than what we agreed was the default".

We gotta start being more open to alternative websites.
