Delighted and stressed at various FFXIV players mentioning wanting to give FFXI a try after recent news.

I adore FFXI with all of my heart, but for anyone new looking to give it a try: for your own sake, please look up guides. Please look up guides. There's stuff on BG Wiki ^note and the old FFXIclopedia. Hell, if you'd like, I wrote up a small one a bit ago when some friends showed interest. This was from an era before modern MMOs, it's improved a lot, but the game isn't going to tell you shit!! Please consider having resources handy.

^note Heads up though: As helpful as the information in it is, the Lv 1~119 Quickstart Guide on BG does unfortunately throw out ableist remarks pretty immediately.

Your guide helps a lot! The guides i've found have been too "wide" for my taste so this'll help out in my next session.

It was originally written for folks who didn't quite want their hand held the entire time, but didn't want to miss out on some important things that would improve the gameplay experience, so I'm real glad to hear that!! I hope you have fun with FFXI!

It’s motivating me to actually finish my story playthrough. I’m ilvl 119 (in mediocre Adoulin gear) but I haven’t actually finished any of the expansion stories because I’ve been beelining ilvl and RoV for easy soloing. So far my favorite by a wide margin is Chains of Promathia, but I thought Wings of the Goddess had a great start. I’m probably most excited to finish Treasures of Aht Urghan, though, given the FFXIV connections.

On a whim, I started looking up a bit of the endgame stuff and whoo boy, am I lost! I stopped playing XI around the time the level cap got bumped to 90 and there's now so much extra stuff like daily spins of some gobbie stash and Records of Eminence and Heroic Trials etc. etc. and I'm just whelmed by it, perhaps overly so! I thought getting my AF3 upgraded once was a hassle, now it can be reforged and re-upgraded too? It seems like a lot...
