Today I'm thinking about Cat Step by Daisuke Tanabe
definitely listen to this whole album if you're up for it, it's pretty short! But this is my favorite track. It's Blue closer to aqua.
It's interesting to hear this sort of super mellow interpretation of footwork, a genre that I personally adore but don't care to talk about openly because. I dunno I guess I felt like it was so personal to Chicago that maybe I shouldn't? But I think maybe nothing adjacent to hip-hop escapes the full scrutiny of the world. It's not like people all over don't already know about it and have long before I did.
Anyway I don't quite have the words to describe it, but I think it's very cool to take a style of music known for its relentless, fast-paced patterns and samples and do the same thing but make it. Quiet and calm? Subdued? It's like this album is gently patting you on the head at a thousand miles per hour. Really good for relaxing to lol.
