summary

people went to the Port of Tacoma believing they were there to Block the Boat. they followed the guidance and instruction of the organizers to do what was implied/told to them as effectively preventing the boat from being loaded. suddenly, middle of the day they were told the "action was over" and they could go home. the organizers had known the ship was being worked by a military crew, not a union worker one, and had been partially loaded. they discouraged people from doing anything that would actually block the boat, and misled participants into believing they were doing all they could. they used it for a bit of a photo-op opportunity, and called this a victory and success even though it was able to depart port fine and go on its way to supply the military.

some of the same ppl celebrating people in Melbourne disregarding organizations discouragement from disruptive action turn around and get mad at ppl being critical of the same in the US causing failures like the above. so frustrating

reading about this sucks both in the regular way of “wow i wish this didn’t turn out so bad” AND in a personal way bc it keeps reminding me of the ineffectual strike i took part in around this time last year with the way people keep saying “we just walked in circles for hours and ultimately nothing got accomplished”. not a unique issue unfortunately, i hope people who were let down are able to put together an action that Actually does something

its definitely unfortunate. even i who went to the DC march know there may be limits to a lot of easily accessible stuff such as this, especially when poor organization is involved (usually from the usual suspects, not Palestinian organizers to be clear). i think the lesson i try to take away is "doing something is better than nothing, what can we do to prevent peace policing and ineffectual organization next time?"

its part of why i tend to not formally join organizations, but do focus on supporting specific smaller local ones with specific goals and demands who organize well. its funny, ive never seen so many communists such as myself so united with anarchists in being pissed off about the ways this stuff is happening. tbh that may be smth to look to as collaboration towards actual disruption to supply chain. pressure on those formally "managing" actions/protests to have more transparency with participants and willingness to collectively push past direction that neutralizes why people are showing up
