I turn off the root-offsetting and it just works.
This was one of those cases where I was shocked by how little I had to do to make something work. Both systems are just solid enough to already be compatible! Always a pleasant surprise when that happens.

So there's a quiet dynamic in the game that I never state anywhere which is basically you pick up items with your left hand and interact with your right, and that's preserved on the ladder and absolutely everywhere else. (It's to simplify the animation possibility space)
