Tories really fucking around and about to find out, like... I feel like even Scots who don't care about the gender bill are gonna be fucking furious about this? and it's like... all the reasons Scotland was told to Remain are turning out not true lol. "you won't be able to join the EU if you secede" (lol. lmao). "you can have self-government within the UK" (until you try to respect trans people apparently)
if the United Kingdom ends that way then they'll have come up with an end that's even stupider than the beginning (overenthusiasm for the worst-laid colonization plan)
I never stop bringing up the Darien Scheme bc it never stops being the most ridiculous way for a country to go - doing such a bad job colonizing another country that you lose your own independence as a direct consequence.
(It's also part of my agenda of reminding people that just bc the English are terrible colonizers and terrible to Scots doesn't mean Scots are some poor victims of English imperialism: Scots - and same goes for Welsh and Cornish folks - were active and eager perpetrators of colonial atrocities in Ireland and the rest of the world alongside the English both before and after the Acts of Union! Some expressions of supposed Celtic solidarity against the English that I see people post sometimes rub me the wrong way like. yeah the English were terrible to everybody but also don't act like it was anything like the scale of what was done to Ireland or like the other British countries weren't doing a huge part of all that to Ireland. But I digress...)
