mild/vague g-witch finale talk, probably spoilers if you’re fastidious
i wish prospera mercury had been a better prospero. prospero is a really interesting character because his fundamental arc in that play is about turning away from revenge. he starts out by conjuring the nominal tempest but ends by freeing aerial, breaking his staff, and burying his book so that his family can have happiness.
like sure there’s more to it than that (and im very deliberately not talking about caliban here) but prospera’s arc feels really deficient in comparison. like she never really chooses to reject that revenge in the way prospero does (and in fact her last real act in the show is trying to convince suletta to cooperate with the revenge plan again)
its kinda similar in some ways to how the show gestures at utena but doesnt really ever make anything of the main themes or structure of the work it references. g-witch wants you to know that it has Read A Book but it doesnt ultimately do anything to convince me that it actually understood the books it read
