u ever played the avernum series? aka the exile series way back several operating systems ago. i know you're a true-doom shareware head so this might already be a silly question but i'm very fond of them myself
never really dove into those. i have one sitting in my steam backlog i should give it some time. i remember you speaking fondly of the series years ago
the setting and stakes are fascinating imho (it's not really a game where ur party has much in the way of characterization so you have to fill in the blanks based on what you do and who you talk to) but unfortunately it's not until avernum 2 that they let you put cat people and lizard people in your party
Just shotgunning some of my recent rpgs by their good qualities and potential for lesbian romance ideation:
Elex was fun in a very Eastern European way. Running away from all enemies until you get strong enough to finally fight them definitely has an appeal. There’s a general lack of women to ship with each other though.
I enjoyed Cyberpunk by going in with low expectations. The open world is awful but the main storyline is a solid AAA Mass Effect type experience. I thought the gay romance route for women was pretty good.
Rune Factory 5 is the peak of farming JRPG and finally lets you be gay.
Ryza is a pretty accessible and solid Atelier game. The writing really sells you on the power of youthful determination. Atelier Sophie is certainly better for lesbian shipping though.
Troubleshooter is a super greebly tactics rpg that has extremely inventive and fun mechanics. You can definitely read 90% of the cast as gay.
Tales of Berseria is the best recent Tales game and the protagonist is a dark and edgy woman out for revenge. It’s pretty great if you have high JRPG tolerance.
