A university education doesn't necessarily save you from this. I think I've reinvented A* search from scratch on two separate occasions lmao
ehe that's reassuring, i dropped out entirely after dropping like half of my classes in my first year so ive just got no idea what is or isn't actually formally taught

every single person who spends time with computers has only a tiny, tiny subset of all available computing knowledge, likely even within their own field. two people can both be web developers and have absolutely different skill sets. Hell, two people could both be react devs but one did it for a giant enterprise SAAS product and the other freelance making bespoke websites. And if they talk, the first one is going to feel stupid for not knowing how to set up web servers or custom DBs or push a site to a hosting service, and the other is going to feel stupid for not being experienced with giant state management libraries or docker containers.
So anyway I hope your takeaway from your post is “shit look how fuckin smart I am inventing these algorithms from first principles even tho I didn’t get taught them”, and not imposter syndrome
hehehe this is super sweet sol, thank you :) <3 dw tho, im not kicking myself for it by any means! i left my first games job 6mo in largely due to the friction that arose from the discrepancy between my unity exp and my boss' which suit his ego too well. was mostly just posting about feeling mild exasperation towards how frequently i find out the solutions i come up to solve problems are known documented methods with names i just hadnt come across hehe
