god damn 2023 was shit!! i cannot even describe how shit it was, and i dont wanna so here's a list of GOOD THINGS that happened in 2023!!
- i got really into fighting games (guilty gear strive primarily) and started working on my own
- plum and i made ROOTZ in 12 hours for global game jam and it's a really silly 1-button party game for as many players as you have buttons on your keyboard
- i got to celebrate my birthday with plum and ate almost the whole carrot cake
- i got pretty good at longboarding around chicago, and later going on long skates by myself with my janky skateboard when i was Going Thru It in montréal
- had a valentines day date with plum!! i had never been on a valentines day date before
- i built my first ever TWO gunplas, also with plum, one on vday and one during a later visit later
- after 17 years i finally got bionicle set 8556 boxor which is the best set they every made imo
- i successfully refused my rent increase, fuck you landlord eat shit
- i got a wisdom tooth pulled and still need to make it into an earring
- i finally started therapy
- plum and i got legally married for the government and finally submitted our first sponsorship application to the canadian government
- i got surgery to shave off my adams apple and now ive got this sick scar under my jaw
- i got to see my dear friend josie in person for the second time, five years after the first time we met in person
- i got to go to combo breaker 2023 which was INCREDIBLE and now i understand why people like going to sports events
- also went to an aquarium for the first time and saw a lotta cool fucked up fish
- my sister moved to montréal
- i got to play tennis again for the first time since i was in high school
- went to a renaissance faire for the first time
- swam for the first time since i was 12, first time swimming without overwhelming amounts of dysphoria cause my swimsuit is CUTE as FUCK
- got to play softball for the first time with a bunch of my coworkers which was a lotta fun
- got to see my old bakery boss bob for the first time since i left 6 years ago! despite going back to see him 1-3 times a year since then, EVERY time i went the store was either suddenly closed or it was a holiday or one of the two days it's not open anymore. got to introduce him to plum too, which was extra lovely
- plum and i got to meet each other's families
- i helped ship goodbye volcano high and ridiculous fishing ex! also just working at ko_op is wonderful and a highlight of this year and probably will be every year cause i love my coworkers so much
- i watched a lotta sweet romance anime and it's been so good being able to indulge my desire to engage with romance media given how much weird guilt i felt about it that stuck around even after i started transitioning
- i did a lotta ffxiv fishing and made a lotta progress on my log which im really proud of!
- i got a lot better about asserting and respecting my own my boundaries! which so far has mostly only resulted in heartbreak and tragedy and has upended most of this year but i think it's been an important step and better than being walked over and not considered
- pumpkin was really sweet and cute and even tho i got him around the end of last year he's grown SO BRAVE and has become so affectionate and is now a LAP CAT when im sitting in chairs which is huge :)
ok that's everything i can think of from scrolling through all my photos and looking back at this thats a lot more than i thought! a lot of them were from the first third of the year before everything went to shit but it's good to remember and cherish them :)
fuck you 2023, im gonna do my best to make 2024 better!!
