Pretty silly of them given that FF16 didn't meet their ludicrously high sales expectations.
i'd bet five bucks that years from now, people will be discussing and praising Stranger of Paradise more than they will XVI (i have not played either but just my onion that Serious AAA is Bullshit)
Where that cutoff is really changes how I feel about this. Because I'd much rather be getting Dragon Quest Monsters 3, Nier Replicant, Live A Live, and Triangle Strategy than FFXVI or Forespoken, but at the same time they have really had some bottom rung games that either needed a lot more support or whose resources would've been better spent on other games...
That being said, this is most likely just bad news through and through.
Triangle Strategy, the Octopaths, the Bravely's, I don't see any of those being given the time of day.
We'll have two kinds of boring: "boring" as in no new releases because development cycle will take 6+ years, and then "boring" because the released game is a drag
It's a shame because their mid sized games regularly are the hidden gems for me (forever sad we'll never get World of Final Fantasy 2 with the villains side of the story). I hope this doesn't affect their Dragon Quest side because DQ regularly puts out amazing content as small and mid budget games.
