Edel is my favorite little guy.

Anyway here's some drabbles I wrote on Tumblr when he's a littler guy and trying to make friends:

Drabble #1

He had an intense look about him.
Lawrence pushed his hair behind his ear, there was an hour lunch break between classes today, but he wanted for nothing. The day was warm and slightly humid, and his eyelids felt heavy. He was, frankly, rather bored today.

"Lawrence,"

The voice came from behind him, he looked over to see a young woman with brown hair, her hands on her hips, staring straight at him. None other than Elanore, a young girl with the sight of a hawk. He didn't like it when she looked at him so, it felt like she could read his thoughts against his will.

"…What can I do for you?"

He noticed the young master was with her as well. He was staring down at a box he was holding, but he seemed unwilling to look up at him.

"Hmn? What's that you got there?"

"Go on, tell him," she seemed exasperated, as if she had a ten minute long argument with the boy. He had to tell him something desperately, Lawrence guessed.

"I-I…"

They both waited. Lawrence knew if he showed any sign of impatience, he would never find out what he wanted. Besides, his stutter was a little bit endearing. It reminded him of Samantha.

Edelweiss took a deep breath, his mouth parted slightly.

"…Could we eat lunch with you today?"

Lawrence's eyes widened slightly, catching Elanore's attention. Ah, she thought, he wasn't expecting that.

"You?" He paused to think on his words, a slight smile on his face, "You sure you want to be seen with me?"

"Yes," he responded quickly, firmly. Lawrence did not think he knew what exactly that meant in the long run, but he didn't mind. He shrugged and looked over at Elanore, Lawrence couldn't help but feel like he was being tested.

"I didn't bring a lunch today," Lawrence admitted, "Is that a problem?"
He didn't say no, Edelweiss thought.

"You may have some of mine."

"You're a growing boy," Lawrence teased, "I couldn't ask that."

"You, also, are a growing boy, Lawrence," Elanore replied, "Here, I made extra today."

Drabble # 2

"…Edelweiss."

"You don't have to call me that," he frowned, it was far too formal, " … Edel is fine."

"Your uncle isn't going to mind?"

"He's not here," he mumbled, "…besides, you say it kind of funny."

Lawrence opened his mouth, he had to think for a moment about what he should say to that, because normally- normally, he would have retorted quite harshly. It was enough pause for Edel to continue.
"I have something for you," he turned away from Lawrence and ran to a cabinet. The Apothecary studio they were in was a wing that shared storage with the chemical composition labs. It was always in these situations that he noticed Edel's burst of enthusiasm. He really enjoyed the chemist portion of being an alchemist. Ask him a plant and he'll identify it's uses in an instant. Lawrence did notice, though, that he was partial to flowers, mostly.

Suppose it made sense, edelweiss are common flowers in the highlands near Vilandra. It was apt for him, naturally.

"So… what did you want to give me?"

"You turned in a handkerchief the other week. It was covered in blood."

Edel handed him a small parcel, it was wrapped in a thin sheet of paper and tied with a ribbon. Lawrence looked at it before looking back at him.

"…I was in charge of cleaning it. Well, with the Master Alchemist. It's Tarasian silk, so I had to be careful with the concoction. I didn't wish to ruin the texture of it, so I had to research some older samples. Apparently these are quite rare, Master Alchemist Sanade wanted to ask you about it, but I wanted to bring it to you first."
Lawrence was a bit dumbfounded, but he reached out for the handkerchief. Edel was far too chatty for a simple handkerchief. Did alchemy students have to learn how to

"Uhm,"

"You didn't hesitate to use it when a student was injured… I wanted to make sure it had the proper care and cleaning it deserved."
Lawrence looked at him, something he often tried to avoid- direct eye contact seemed to bother Edel, but he was kind of taken aback.

"…Professor Sanade doesn't think I stole it, does she?"

"N-N-N-No! A-Absolutely n-not!"

"That's good," Lawrence sighed, "You really took care of this? For me? I don't think I can pay for the cleaning right away…"

"I-It is of no charge," Edel frowned, "I-I am sure she simply wants to know it's origins. It's n-not a common material that we get to work with in the cleaning department… "

"It's my mother's," Lawrence admitted, looking down at the cloth, "… She was born in Taras. I suppose she gave it to me as a good luck charm."

Edel smiled, "I think it was. …Is it an acceptable job? Are you satisfied with the cleaning?"

Lawrence smiled back, "Yeah. It's perfect."
