I was thinking about this earlier because BG3 does the same thing. In both games it's easy to install a mod that re-enables achievements and it's one of the top downloaded mods. So why do they still bother disabling achievements with mods? It's just annoying.

For BG3 You can also download saves that are right before certain achievements so you can load them and get the achievement without getting to it yourself. So even if we supposedly cared about cheating achievements (which is silly) doing that is a way more direct cheat than installing mods and the game won't detect it.
