I'm working on some blender stuff in my spare time and I don't know how rigging works help 
you might wanna look into inverse kinematics (IK)! here's a good tutorial to get you started. it's a little basic but you can expand on the concepts!
Ik is def on the list for me, I think most of my trouble is just trying to wrap my head around how blender wants to treat armatures/joints compared to Maya
It's hard to describe but blender seems to really want you to be working directly with joints, whereas in Maya you want to be working with groups/offsets because otherwise it's really destructive to the transform data for them
It's also a little more complicated cuz I'm working with a character ripped from a game, so I have to work with the bones and vertex groups that are already there 🥲
oh yea i still haven't fully understood blender's whole armature system. i believe in u though!!
