Strong "whatever the game ID did before Wolfenstein that I had on my 386" vibes here.
I have been working on a Bards Tale 1 inspired mobile game for longer than I care to admit, because I feel like mobile devices are a great format for that, but also it turns out writing an RPG from scratch is quite fiddly.
Ooooo, that's exciting!! that kind of game seems perfect for phones (though a huge time investment yea)
i'm hoping i can make this feel good on phones too, it's likely that long-term i'll switch to grid-based movement...
Once I got the 3d part I thought I was pretty much set, but then it turns having characters and inventories and equipment and enemies and turn-based combat and loot and death and party structuring end party ordering and advancement and and and and...
oh no, this is just a super simple mockup in unity! The RPG Maker 3D mod is really cool though, i know Dys uses it and i'm excited to play it at some point

I love how it looks in Crystals of Irm which keeps to some low-poly models and maybe 32x32 tiles in dungeons?
Oooh wow, yea! I hadn't seen it before, but it looks really good. It's definitely that kind of style that I'm interested in playing with.
