I'm super proud of the progress I made in just 3 iterations ^-^ the far right on each row is the original attempt from memory, the far left is the corrections laid over the original, and the middle is corrections after note-taking and without it laid over the original.
The original artist is DCLzexon and the character is Berwyn from Corruption of Champions 2!
I think the real boon of this type of study is how quickly it trains up your "Something's fucky" senses π€ that thing where people say "I just draw what feels right" well this is an imperial way of getting there and I'm willing to bet it's methods similar to this that inexplicably talented people stumbled across without realizing. Because really it's not a hard thing to accidentally do. It's basically just draw something from memory and then compare it to the original afterwards and correct.
It's something that lazy people and those compelled to draw all the time are bound to do. "Don't have a reference? Fuck it, I wanna draw I'll check it later." And by the simple act of forcing your brain to remember without knowledge on hand in the physical world, your brain makes neural connections with the implication that it's necessary to know this and it's not something it can link the request to a physical act instead. The brain, as we all know, is an incredibly complex organ that tries to save as much space as possible by relegating information recall to other tools if possible.
It's why I haven't been able to remember a phone number since I got a cell phone and why the only number I know are my number, and my grandma's number from when I was a kid.
This was meant to be just a little post about a small win I had after a week of no real wins and lots of small failures, but now it's devolved into a study tip π€
So study tip! Find art that makes you go 'Woauw!" and force your brain to remember by not looking at reference, then take notes and fix the drawings π
