i just did a little sprucing up of the rude detectives archives on youtube and there's..... so much stuff over there. turns out streaming consistently for FIVE YEARS makes some content.

there's crossword streams, there's lots and lots of Nancy Drew LP's (including our current game of The Silent Spy which I would recommend jumping in on!!!) and some variety streams.

if I may recommend two playlists:

  • The Captive Curse is probably the best writing I've encountered in a nancy drew game so far, that manages to both be appropriately maudlin, touchingly morose, and extremely silly
  • The Deadly Device was a recent very fun one with some really interesting puzzle designs! chemistry, lesbians, chemistry with lesbians, 3D printing, a day/night cycle, and a faraday cage

"i might also recommend midnight in salem for the worst possible [retroactively delightful] nancy drew experience" SOOOOO true bestie. anyway thanks for the rec i know what ill be watching for the next uhhh several months of work

i streamed the whole experience and it took me way longer than it should have because i kept having to pause and explain the entire development history of MID specifically and Her Interactive in general whenever i got unreasonably salty about, like, spotting default Unity assets. i will hand it to them though i might be the only person in the world who thinks Brittany Cox is a very good nancy and that while Lani Minella will always hold a VERY special place in my heart i think it was time for a change

I do think she did a nice job and i was personally tickled thinking about the overlap between Ingrid Fireemblem (who she also voiced!) and Nancy.

everything about that game was just such a slog. the writing, which i really think is one of the best part of the her games, takes such a big hit. and i was unreasonably angry about being forced to play as the hardy boys lol

the best shining part of midnight in salem to me is the extremely fraught deirdre/nancy conversations
