gogo is a weirdo character the main party finds in a cave, and they go "hey im bored can i join ur party lol" and so they join your party. they are never really acknowledged by the story, except in bits where every character say something, and their fate in the credits is just as unceremonious. hilariously enough, they're the most broken character in the game

every party member in FF6 has their own gameplay mechanic -- sabin has fighting game inputs for specific attacks, terra can transform and her magic is significantly stronger, locke can steal items and gear from enemies, setzer has a slot machine, etc.. gogo's gimmick is mimicking the most recent move done in your party, and they have up to 3 custom menu slots in battle, including everyone else's abilities. this means gogo is basically your custom class character, and you can specialize them however you want. if you know what you're doing, gogo can become a god-tier all-rounder of the party, despite their general stats are noticeably weaker than everyone else's on average.

lore-wise this also implies that gogo might be the strongest playable character in the franchise's canon. sabin's strongest blitz move -- which you need to find his mentor very late in the game so he can train with him to learn that move -- can be easily replicated by gogo and dish out nearly as much damage. keep in mind sabin prevented an entire house from collapsing by himself

gogo also doesn't have a gender, which i think rules especially for a game published in 1994
