I see why everyone really likes Vim. It’s cool that there’s this special incomprehensible shadow realm you can be banished to specifically for failing to leave a commit message in git…it really makes me appreciate these crazy things we call computers all the more.

Jon Gitmore, the inventor of Git: Perfect, I've invented git! Just one problem: these nerds are refusing to communicate their changes! Software collaboration can never happen at this rate!

Priscilla Vimmaxia: I've got an idea. What if we had some way of punishing users who fail to leave commit messages?

Jon Gitmore: I'm into it, but we'd need a punishment that suits the crime.

Priscilla Vimmaxia: What if we trapped users who fail to leave messages in a word processor re-imagined as a sisyphean hell? For the crime of dismissing their collaborators they are cursed to wander the non-euclidean halls of the terminal, desperate for the help of those they once spurned, but unable to form the words to beg for their forgiveness?

Jon Gitmore: You're a genius, Priscilla! You have my permission to invent Vim immediately.

i never actually thought of it this way lol

i deliberately don't pass the -m flag so it will open vim and i can write a multi-line commit message

i've also been familiar with vim for way, way longer than is healthy so ymmv
