Rats are known to show empathy towards other rats, When a rat sees another rat is captive they will scout the area and act as a guide until the other rat can escape. If two Rats, one capable and one incapable of foraging recieve treats, the one capable of foraging will often share their treat with the other rat.
Examples of this behaviour are wide spread in the species and require very little control to recreate.
