the majority of this past week has been spent getting all the stuff for the house together... which we finally finished setting the basics up for and i am tired!!! i took monday and tuesday off because i needed to be home for the internet workers to set up the internet and then do all the town hall paperwork, but we managed to get that done without too many snags.

the appliances are very nice... the oven is also a microwave, so we can use it both ways whenever we need to. unfortunately we're still mostly getting conbini food because i don't have all of the cooking gear i need yet to make anything decent (and the stuff i do have from CA is still being shipped...), but it heats up our food pretty well. the rice cooker is also very nice (and has a cake function, among many others!!) so if i get a little knife or something i can at least cut up some veggies and meat and make big servings of takikomi gohan (veggie/meat mixed rice) that we can eat throughout the week. also, it's not shown in the picture, but the drawer where the rice cooker is actually pulls out so you can let the steam rise when it's cooking! the cabinet is pretty neat and will be good for when we get our other kitchen gear back...

i finally tested the washer the other day too, and it rules!!! i put in a pretty heavy bunch of laundry with a pair of ryan's jeans, and it washed and dried everything in like 2 hours, which is extremely powerful for a jp washer/dryer!! they even have a quick setting for lighter clothes and innerwear that can wash/dry your clothes in like 30 minutes!! so i'm looking forward to using that, because the majority of what i'm washing is just heattech. i'm just glad this thing is everything i wanted it to be.

the bed and mattress are very cozy too! i kind of took a shot in the dark with the mattress when i ordered it, but all the reviews said it was like sleeping on a little cloud, so i was like "well!! ok!!" and luckily it is indeed like sleeping on a cloud. we got a double-size bed instead of a queen (the queen would have been a bit too wide) but we are more than happy with it... the temporary apartment only had a semi-double bed and that was an extremely tight fit, so it's nice to get a good night's sleep without feeling like we're sardines on a mattress!

i also got a new desk, since my old ikea one in CA was too big for a japanese house... the new one's perfect though!! it is just the right size for my laptop/mic/drawing tablet, so i am satisfied. ryan's desk is with the sea freight, so it probably won't be here a while... i got him a little folding desk and a comfy blue chair to use in the meantime. the chair is very nice, so i'll probably keep it in the office even after ryan gets his stuff and make it a little reading/lounge chair for the office.

we realized the ikea bed we were bringing over (which we used back in CA as a little nap couch) was probably not going to fit in our office since it's kind of a weird rectangle shape, but thankfully the room that's supposed to be my WFH office is still pretty much empty, so we'll probably have it put there, since i didn't really plan too have too much in there save for my work desk/chair/equipment.

i commuted into work yesterday, and it wasn't too bad! it's about 30-45-ish minutes to where i need to go, depending on if i catch an express train or a regular train that stops at every stop. the trains going there and back home weren't too crowded, since i took a regular train and not an express one, though i did see an express one pass by us and it was packed...so if taking a normal train means i get better sitting real estate, i will probably do that. i'll probably still be commuting in until late spring, so i can probably manage it, though i get home pretty late, so i mostly just wash up, snuggle up under the covers with my ipad (because it is COLD!!), and sleep at the end of the day. i guess i feel kind of lucky i entered the workforce a year before everyone switched to WFH... you save so much time and money by not commuting, but i love taking the trains here, so it's not the worst thing in the world. still...it'll be nice to just clock out and have an extra few hours before and after work.

today is a holiday (the emperor's birthday!), so i have off again and we're planning to get groceries today and maybe say hello to the nextdoor neighbors. then i go back to work on friday and then it's the weekend! luckily this week is short, but it's back to regular weeks from monday!! we'll see how a full week of commuting goes... hopefully i at least have the energy to play games by the time the weekend hits, but we will see.
