This is a short little paper that has stuck with me for years - it's a short recount of how someone serendipitously discovered a possible explanation for a seemingly haunted engineering lab! I'm not particularly a believer in ghosts or the supernatural, but I love reading about these kinds of places because the investigation that bridges the gap between spooky mystery and scientific explanation just ticks all the boxes for me. I absolutely love learning about how our senses can fool us and reveal gaps in our understanding of the world. The full writeup is worth a read (it's only 5 pages), so I'm going to lead with the link, as well as a follow-up where someone tested this hypothesis in a similar basement with a reputation for giving people haunted vibes:

(I should qualify that these are far from rigorous studies with conclusive results, and from what I've found the science on infrasound is definitely not settled - but it's very interesting nonetheless!)
