I see a lot of people on the left mock claims like this but shit is legit and you're probably caught up in some of it and have been for awhile

[edit 2] Guess I'll address this in the main post since I've seen people posting about it: Bringing up the subject of foreign propaganda attacking the US is not a statement that US propaganda doesn't exist and isn't a serious problem. You're preaching to the choir about the abuses of the US government. Doesn't mean foreign propaganda is a non-issue or imaginary. And talking about foreign propaganda doesn't mean I'm saying the US doesn't have its own purely self-created problems. Please don't hit this conversation with a "So you hate waffles?" That's a whole new sentence. Arguing against things I never said makes you look silly. Don't do that. Thanks.

because I had no fucking clue about any of this. i’m not online much; I dont do deep dives into reddit to discover these kinds of things. and this post has changed my perspective on the internet a bit

ā€œYou are being targeted by a sophisticated PR campaign meant to make you more resentful, bitter, and depressed. It's not just disinformation; it's also real-life human writers and advanced bot networks working hard to shift the conversation to the most negative and divisive topics and opinions.ā€

another important note that I want to add is that major social media networks such as instagram and twitter/x are disincentivized to do anything about this because rage bait is an engagement farm that is VERY profitable for them, so nothing there is going to change.

i think the most important takeaway is this: take care of yourself. take breaks from social media/the internet at large and spend time face-to-face with people who cherish and respect you. form genuine community, online and offline. respect yourself and others. and lastly NEVER give up hope for a better future and liberation for all.

in reply to @amydentata's post:

I always think of having gotten that "hey you interacted with some Russian propaganda" notice on Tumblr a few years back and it was on some of the weirdest posts, like, oh

Yeah IDK. This sort of thing gets dunked on a lot but I do think it is possible to hold in one's mind "US liberals wave 'Russian disinformation' around as a Boogeyman to discredit the left" AND "the Russian state has a vested interest in fomenting conflict online" at the same time.

Good read, thank you for sharing

I’m somewhat curious how many ā€œwell meaning but hysterical liberals who call everything Russian botsā€ are in fact Russian propagandists. It’s gotta be nonzero right? Like that’s such an obvious way to get people to not take this seriously.

Sorry for being depressed in your comment, but I think my situation is not unique and I think it could be helpful to other people, or maybe I just want to whine.

I don't really have friends offline. I don't have a community. I tried to look for activity in my city, but there is not much and all there is is sports related. Sometimes I'm too tired to connect with my few online friends. Do you have any recommendation? I tried inviting people to talk to me on Discord, but they either didn't replied or politely declined.
