social media especially

like, i understand that people want connection and to feel like they're in a community but i feel like there's no longer any effort to actually try to communicate or relate to people

everything and everyone is a brand, mental illness is a meme

you no longer have to mull over a subject, you just say the first thing that comes to mind. everyone's mad about something and they tweet about it everyday or make a tiktok or whatever the hell

why would you ever stop and think about something when you can just be mad first

I'm definitely not innocent of this (and anger can be a justified, useful tool) but there are some people whose entire online persona is being angry all the time and I have no idea how they do it. Maybe we're just wired different? Either way I can't be around them for long; it's exhausting.

I don't want to psychoanalyze people I've never met too hard but I suspect it's less choosing the anger itself and how they're choosing to funnel it? Like, getting fired up and getting people reacting to that is probably validating and empowering.

Just last night I posted an annoyed rant about something and yeah, it did feel good to have a bunch of people go "yeah, me too." I can see how it'd be really easy, if you were so inclined, to get sucked into that, especially for issues that are (or feel) more important.
