do i dare "upgrade" to windows 11 whenever I install this new SSD? i know it has a lot of bloat which i'll have to take care of, but i don't want to be caught off guard when windows 10 will eventually lose support in a couple of years.

Win11 is... alright from my experience (came pre-installed already on a laptop,) but there's quite a few microagressions that keep it behind from win10 ("Simplified" context menu, no tiles in start menu, no taskbar grouping (yet))
Plus I think you can go back to win10. I'd say to try it and see how the UX is for you
