I guess the elevator pitch is "Punch-Out meets MadWorld," but it does more than that description would let on. Between fights you explore the world and do some light puzzle solving to progress, staying in Little Mac view the entire time. It's a neat gimmick, taking Punch-Out gameplay out of the ring and applying it to a full adventure.
I like what this game is trying to be, and I like its style and its dedication to taking itself seriously despite how ridiculous the plot is, but I wish it was a less frustrating game. It's not as good of a Punch-Out game as Punch-Out, and I never expected it to be, but the timing between a boss's tell and its attack can be extremely tight. The readability can get rough too, and when the entire hook of the gameplay is about being extremely reactive to enemy patterns, it can feel unfair.
If I had to guess I'd say I'm halfway through, and while I am enjoying it, I can see people getting frustrated with this and giving up on it.
