any genre, any time length, any format. solo projects, projects with bands, one-off mp3s, anything!

as musicians, ideally we want to make music that we enjoy, and if others also do, that's awesome. i'm sure most of you have at least one standout track you've worked on that you're really proud of and want people to listen to!

i'll start with what is my absolute favorite off my latest Noctoran release, "Reflection of the Pale Moon's Eye" from the Thy Curses We Bear Eternal demo in April of 2023:

as the closer of this black metal demo, i really feel like i nailed the feel and the production that i wanted in this song. the riffs don't particularly diverge much from their structure, but i think it really works for the sort of raw-but-atmospheric vibe i was going for with this material.

i'm also really happy with the drum arrangements; there's a sense of flow that i wanted to nail between the start and looping into the main riff with the super aggressive blast beats. it's also the only song on the demo that has a slower, more doomy sort of dirge feeling to it a little after the middle. i am also really happy with how the vocals turned out, going between the shrill highs, deep lows, and the moments where i just scream my lungs out.

overall i've been really happy with this track, and it also feels really good to play live. i think you've accomplished making a truly great track when it gets stuck in your own head.

i don't play out much anymore, but i'm a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, so i'm putting out a little list of different modes i played in that i thought i did well

DRUMS: i come in at 2:06 in this Cutting Room Floor track and play until 3:48. coming in at 3:19 felt like flying to me; i'm proud of the concept which makes that moment stick, and i'm proud of my technical execution overall.

i like this one

i still havent gotten to record a full band version of this track but this one means a lot to me. hearing it with my band with the wall-of-sound shoegaze guitar behind it rly makes it feel complete where I wasn't able to make it feel just from ableton plugins. its a shame no recordings exist of that version of the song, and thats on me.

it's this one, followed by ill moonlight (also band version), followed by this thing ((no homo voice) no omo)

Not the most original pick since it's the album's title track but it's a very important track for me in terms of how it helped me build confidence in my music making. It's the first track i ever made that I did vocals for myself, and I really took my time with it to figure things out. It made me excited to produce happy hardcore!!

I'm pretty puppy proud of it 🐶💗

outside of the eidolon soundtrack, one of my fave pieces is actually this commission from a few years back. it's way outside my usual wheelhouse, being on the slower and simpler side, so I think it sounds more "special" to me as a result

I'm also a big fan of Lifejacket just because I think it is without a doubt the best Joke Song I've ever made.

If I had to pick my favorite children, and I wasn't going to go drag that one "Last Kiss" remix off my backup drive:

  • Ecnalubma (circa 2001) - 20 minute abstract ambient constructed in raw C and Perl (stereo) (loud)
  • My Drift (circa 2007) - 5 minute algorithmic sound collage
  • Jesus Dishwasher (JZ remix) (circa 2002) - This is a friend's remix of a bitwise sonic reinterpretation I made of a scan of a drawing my sister made when she was four
  • M.M.I.B. (edit) (circa 2002) - This is just forty seconds of sound but I really like it
