i heard something like this a few years back and it's been really helpful. frankly, the concept of laziness has become so counterproductive that it might be better to jettison it entirely and grow better ones back in its place.
at this point i feel like invoking laziness to explain inaction serves a similar role, on a societal level, as invoking immorality to explain crime - something that is plausible in most peoples' worldview and lets them stop considering the circumstances that contribute to the outcome. if it's simply an attribute of the person then it fits neatly into the neoliberal paradigm of personal responsibility, systems remain unexamined and negative consequences can be made a person's fault. and nobody dares to conclude that life should be better than this, that the mass of unhappily unproductive people are a symptom of deep societal problems.
