accepted wisdom on the internet is that you should not have comments or if you have comments don't read them, which is definitely true given the current state of things but its really sad bc i often find that posts are better when there's discussion happening in them-- you learn more from a conversation than a manifesto, imo

there have been some other places I've spent time on with worthwhile comments sections, but thinking it over the common factor was actual moderation by people who gave a shit and had actual standards, which definitely rules out all the big websites atm

On art, especially, it can be nice to read the comments because people can get really detailed about what they like and then sometimes that introduces you into a new way to appreciate something about what you just liked already
