Speaking of crabpots. (Crab pots?) #MoodPitch is this week over on bird site, so I'm gonna be over there doing that.
A pitch event is when you do an elevator pitch for your book and use the relevant hashtag/follow the relevant theme, then literary agents/editors like your tweet, which means they want you to submit to them (and then your submission gets to skip the line or gets a closer look, or something). It gets you out there which is a cool.
The theme of this one is β¨moodboards ooooβ¨ So I am making moodboards, and it's an interesting challenge. Also I'm using photos that my CEO took so I don't have to worry about image use permissions lol (don't worry I did ask him!)
One of the nice things about pitch fests is that you get to break the normal rules. In a query, you compare your book to ~2 books that are like yours, and that includes age range and genre. And a debut, because you are a debut. And also needs to be published in the last 3 years (and not self published!). But for this! You can do whatever! And Boy Am I Doing That. I'm making 3 different pitches for the same book, each with a different vibe (dare I say....different....moods...?), and these are the comps I came up with:
- Metroid Prime / (The Guardians of) Ga'Hoole
- Les Mis(erables) / (HBO's) Chernobyl
- The Bone Shard Daughter / Fallout (the Bethesda games)
Gonna look for more radioactive-y images tomorrow. I'm sure Wikipedia has some good possibilities. Sadly real-life radiation isn't purple, but mine is, and I don't think I can go out and take my own pictures of Cerenkov radiation.
