(background: i am a trans guy and i only figured out/identified as not-cis a couple years after i graduated college. so me "being" a girl at the time of this story is important to keep in mind and I will be referring to myself as such)

so, this is the first week or two of college. i've already formed a friend group, and we've all met each other for the first time (except for a group of 3 that went to the same high school and were friends then, but thats not relevant to this story). Everyone was (presumably) cishet and we all operated under that assumption, because it was 2009 and that's just what you did

(aside: at least one other person in this group also turned out to be trans, which, lol funny how that works out huh)

enter: Nick. He's gay, and he tells me this in confidence. he went to a Catholic high school and his parents don't know he's gay, only his best friends from high school. so coming out is a big deal to him. but, he says, what if i come out in a really funny way. i need your help.

see, it had to be me, since the only other girl in the group became instantly attached to a guy from the moment they met and were clearly dating. so Nick and i started acting the same, very flirty/touchy feely. and people would ask me "are you two dating?" and i'd go "oh tee hee i'm not telling~"

i think this only went on for a few days, but Nick told everyone he had an "announcement" to which everyone assumed, oh, he's going to say this is his girlfriend. so when he said he was gay and we were fake dating, for a bit, people were like ???? huh. i think this was only really funny to Nick and i. this feels like a bad seinfeld bit. but could make a very funny gimmick for a fanfic

anyways. the reason why i'm telling this story/think it's extremely funny/insane is that, well, turns out i'm a guy. and since gender is retroactive i.e. i have always been a guy this entire time, the bit means that Nick was actually fake dating a guy to throw people off into thinking that he's straight. does that mean i was actually his first boyfriend? maybe. i think it's very funny

unrelated: there is at least 1 instance of me going "hehe now that I'm a guy that means I GAY DATED that guy technically!!!!" and then said "guy" turned out to also be trans which means that our relationship got retroactively turned back into a straight relationship >:[
