A lotta folks in the furry fandom have gone through at least a couple of species in their time.

Personally I've had quite the buffet, including often having multiple fursonas at the same time (both inclusive and exclusive of headmates).

2011–2017: Cyborg Honduran white bat
2012–2014: Pegasus pony stallion

The Magenta Era

2014–2023: Pegasus pony mare
2017–2018: Raven

The Green Era

2017–2020: Honduran white bat
2020–present: Robot Honduran white bat
2022–present: Fox squirrel plushsuit
2023–present: Amphimorpho

2003-2012 panda, after I figured out the furry thing a bit
2012-now umbreon, after I came out as trans

None of their designs have really changed either, lol. I just stopped using the previous ones.

2010ish-2014ish: I'm not a furry, and I'm definitely not a "pegasister," even though I am a girl, I am a brony! so I will make myself a horse that is a writer (a unicorn, since how else is she going to be able to write things?)
2014ish-???: I'm not a furry, but what if I had a nonbinary bird digimon thing as like a....persona. online persona, yeah. not a fursona. (this is where the "sirenemon" handle came from)
???-???: okay I guess I am a furry, since I look very Swedish I will go with two Swedish animals (reindeer and svalbard ptarmigan) and make them into a hippogriff. I will also pick out a nonbinary-ish-to-me name and use furry as a way to try it out!
???-???: okay actually that name is bad what if I was. just a regular bird idk I don't feel a huge connection to deers

I guess sirenemon is still an "active fursona" for me since I still identify with them in some way, but the horse and the hippogriff have been "retired". I do have a couple other fursonas, with various numbers of arts made of them, and they're all "me" in one way or another but that's just how it be i guess!
