Turns out I hit my out of pocket max ($9K) for my EXPERIMENTAL GENDER PROCEDURE (gamer fuel injected straight into my vocal chords), and

  1. I am still kinda flabberghasted that they approved this shit in the first place??? Maybe it's because this isn't United but when I needed my hysto (a very normal, ordinary surgery that is on the WPATH list) I had to jump through SO many hoops to get that shit approved but for this (which both insurance and billing is considering "surgery"), I only needed the one letter from my psych. I guess no one at [new insurance company] bothered to check if this was on their list of "medical procedures proven to treat this condition" ??????????
  2. well i no longer have to go "oh geez i might have to limit how many i get because im running out of money"
  3. do i get out of buying my friend a wedding gift because she's part of the medical team for this and this has probably brought in $100k to the clinic

lady from insurance on the phone, just now: heyyyyyyyy im from the chronic condition management team, do you want to join our program? you tell us how bad your symptoms are each day and we help you find doctors and stuff to manage your condition, just to help you out, of course! we want the same thing! there is absolutely no way we will use this data against you

yeah no fuck off lol you asked for X, Y, and Z for the prior authorization, I got it for you, and you approved it. you're the one who didn't take the 5 minutes of googling your own fucking internal database of what are the cheapest/"most effective"/"proven" treatments for a condition. this is on you

On United, I asked them what I'd need to do to get [long technical name for ftm top surgery, which included the term "chest masculinization"] approved. And the person said "oh YOU don't need to do anything, your oncologist and your cancer care team will do it all for you :) please get well soon!" and then I said, no, it's for gender purposes only, and they immediately pivoted to "no we do not DO that that is NEVER covered" so I had to argue that 1. yes it is I have read the 500 page document about what's covered in the plan and 2. this (where I live/where my employer is based) is in California and legally this has to be covered. So once the person actually checked that, they were like oh oops uh we need the psych letter and the tit pics then we'll do it i guess

but [new insurance] just rubber stamped it without reading lol which is a nice change of pace! get fucked all my doctors hate you you get what you deserve
