My flash fic "The Application of Lycanthropy as a Novel Treatment for Gender Dysphoria" will be out in Dudes Rock! The theme for that anthology is "queer masculinity" so you can see how that fits right in lol

Also! It will be podcasted on The Voice of Dog! This is a story I think cohost will like a lot so I'm really excited to share it with all y'alls'ses.

I'm currently reading [The Book of Were-Wolves by S. Baring-Gould] as research for my werewolf novel. It goes over all sorts of werewolves and werewolf-esque things in all these different (European) cultures and explains what werewolves REALLY are! Which is people who just think they're tf'ing into wolves because they are mentally unwell.

Of course it's sexist, ableist, and low-key high-key racist, but what else can you expect from a 160 year old book? But also it's sooooo funny this guy just goes on wild tangents, this is clearly his special interest.

Some of the funniest stuff I've found in this book:

  • He will quote primary documents that were written in Greek, Latin, French, Norse, German, Icelandic, Italian, and even more languages I can't remember. And he doesn't even bother to translate most of them. I guess he just expects you to be fluent in 10 different languages since Google Lens didn't exist back then?
  • Sweden won't invade Russia anymore because the last time they tried that, the Russians tf'd their POWs into werewolves and sent them back into Sweden to cause a ruckus.
  • A westerner went to an Aztec emperor's court and was shown a guy who tf'd into, among other things, a snake, an eagle, a lion, and a tiger. You know, the Aztecs, from Mexico. A tiger.
  • The beavers and the otters are always at war with each other.
  • There are only 3 actual explanations for (clinical) lycanthropy:
  1. You are simply indulging in humanity's bloodlust and cruelty and you're Built Different so you just think you're actually tf'ing into a wolf (or astral projecting into a wolf)(or giving yourself false memories of either of those things).
  2. Werewolf headmate.
  3. Drugs.
  • He gives many examples of humanity's bloodlusts. Including this one story he heard from a friend of a friend about this woman who discovered that blood made her skin look younger so she tortured and killed over 650 people, mostly women, to take her sanguine baths at 4 am. But the friend won't actually say the woman's last name, as she is part of a powerful family in Hungary. But the friend will say that her name is Elizabeth. (I fear that, as this guy refused to doxx her, we will never know who she is).
  • Some local beliefs say that werewolves don't have a tail, as humans don't have a tail. So I guess Weregarurumon is actually a guy????
