It feels like a lot of my recent recipes have been screw-ups, so it's nice that it all worked out!

[here is the recipe!]

It's a quick bread/loaf cake made with grapefruit and Greek yogurt (and normal baking stuff). It tastes of brown sugar and grapefruit lol. The glaze this time came out way better than the glaze I made last weekend. There's freshly-squeezed grapefruit juice in the bread/cake and the glaze and zest in the bread/cake, too.

The recipe says you can do it with other citruses, like lemons or limes, and that sounds yummy. It also mentions that you could make lemon bars but with grapefruit? And THAT sounds super yummy...

I still have a ton of grapefruits left over so those will be breakfast (because they are super yummy).

thing is right, i been thinking about this, partly because i am hyper self-conscious.

and it's just ... what is "originality"?

what does that actually mean and why are we so obsessed with it at this stage of humanity?

and the reality I think is because we've been forced to.

the systems of control over art and creativity force us to have to prove some novelty to our creations lest they claim yet more control over them, while they corral off our culture for their personal ends.

this is not how human culture worked for thousands and thousands of years. sharing the songs and stories of your father and mother and their father and mother and on and on is just how culture works.

and the capitalists think they can stop this, control this flow for their own benefit.

and yet as creators we're forced to play that game, to chase novelty, out of a fear they will come down on us and claim ownership of our work, or deny us due compensation for our labor.

sometimes you just want to pay tribute to what inspires you, as so many generations of artists once did.

yet we have no choice but to exact that same control on them whenever we can get it, because they have no such fear or compunction about seizing our work and leaving us with nothing.

a horrible prisoner's dilemma with our entire culture hanging in the balance.

All art exists because the artist remixes and reinterprets things they've seen before. Everyone does this, whether they realize it or not. You can only make a drawing of a tiger because you've seen a tiger before, whether in-person, from someone else's description, or from someone else's photo or video. But how you draw the tiger is going to be totally different than how any other human could possibly draw a tiger, and THAT'S what makes it special and unique.

Plagiarism is Bad because it's creating Content™️ for the sake of creating content, usually for money or clout, without actually caring about the artistic or academic merit of the work. When you create something, there is intention behind it, whether it be "I want to find the link between institutional racism and lowered life expectancy so we can make the world a better place" or "I think these characters should kiss because it would be funny." You do it because you love the thing, or you want to inspire people to do something, or tell a cool story. Yes, you might be doing this for a paycheck, too, but there's that human intention and the seeking of human connection with the reader (or viewer or listener or watcher or whoever).

But when you plagiarize, you're creating content so that there is content to profit from. You have to write this essay for class but you don't want to, so you're gonna make an essay appear and not bother to learn something. You want to put a meme on your Instagram to get more followers so you can attract sponsors. You want to make your story better to get more readers, so let's lift this fight scene that you saw in this one fanfic you really liked, because what matters is a good product, not a good piece of art.

And this is what AI "art" does. It's stealing from artists just to make a piece of content for someone to profit from. It doesn't care about everything being cohesive or having a deeper meaning or the story being fun. Here is a big-boobed anime woman with soft lighting, LOOK AT IT! GIVE ME LIKES! Not to make that connection between art and the viewer, which has always been the reason for art.

That seeking of a human connection is what makes art human, and how that connection is formed and what's within it is different for everyone, and that's what makes something special. But when you plagiarize, you don't give a shit about any of that. You're just making a thing for the sake of a thing existing and you don't care who you hurt in your search for profit or fame.

It's very easy to do! And you should probably do it, considering you've probably never done it before.

Of course, like most cleaning things, test an INCONSPICIOUS SPOT for color fastness. If it passes that test, here's how to do it:

1. Make sure the sink you're doing the cleaning in is clean! I do this in the bathroom sink after having cleaned it earlier in the day.
2. Run cold water over it, getting it wet.
3. Squirt a little bit of (regular human hair) shampoo on it. Using your fingers, rub it to work up a lather. Add more shampoo as needed.
4. Be disgusted as you see all the dirty water coming off of it.
5. Scrub the back a little, too, to get off any dust or gunk stunk to it.
6. Rinse off all the soap. Feel free to do a second round of shampooing, if you want.
7. Blot off the water with a towel so it's not sopping wet.
8. Hang it up to dry. If you don't have a laundry hanging thing, you can use pants hangers with clips or hang it over a towel bar or something (if you have one of those huge desk-spanning mouusepads).
9. Let fully dry before returning it to your desk.
10. Marvel at how bright and vibrant your mousepad is!

As you can tell, this is my mousepad from the 90's. I'm sure I got it at a Circuit City, or maybe a Radioshack. I used Dr. Bronner's because I've turned into one of those people that uses Dr. Bronner's for a lot of things, but I've done it with regular shampoo, too. Probably don't use your shampoo that includes a little hair dye in it to keep your dyed hair nice and bright. If you have Folex, you could probably use that, too, without getting the whole thing wet. (Folex is really good for spot treatment. I got it for my fursuit because it was white and you NEED to keep that super bright and clean).
