i'm as trans and autistic as the next cohost poster but i think the importance of people that are trans and/or autistic in tech is overstated due to sampling bias ("wow, so many of my tech friends are trans and autistic, it must be really common!"). i strongly suspect the majority of software devs are cis and allistic, even at the upper levels (via whatever metric you use), just because the majority of people in general are cis and allistic and i don't think selection effects are that strong.

& i get the vague feeling that this sentiment relies on... i guess a vague-ification of the nature of 'autism'. i don't think it's good to assume that someone being really passionate about graphics driver memory bandwidth optimization or whatever is autistic; nt people can have weird obsessions too
