the thing about saying kids these days are more likely to actively seek out trouble and that it's way more prolific 's like...
we hear more about it because social media and just general media connectivity is what it is. which is not news to anyone who studies these trends. i definitely think there are unique challenges that the youth of now face that are different in some aspects from how i grew up but there are definitely others that aren't any different at all. you have always had kids wildin' out and doing things that make old people raise their eyebrows but now you're more likely to see it on twitter or something than for it to stay rumor in your town
this might also just be me having a very strong reaction to, even unintentionally, demonizing the youth for being "more of the worst sort nowadays" for something that is not entirely on them nor unique to them.
like saying "kids these days only do things for clout on social media" have you never been friends with a bunch of teenagers who want to constantly one-up each other? social media did not start that
like, i was the sort of kid who kept my nose relatively clean because my mother would've probably grounded me until this year if i'd gotten into any shenanigans but trust me there are plenty of damn fool things i did in middle school Just Because. social media may be where some of the wildest stuff shows up but I guarantee you young kids and teenagers have been doing foolish and extremely regrettable things from well before doing it for the vine or tiktok was ever a gleam in a douchebag techbro's eye
