@bunp asked:

this mightve been asked already but:
what inspired you to draw wonderful and very cool queer bugs?
meow

ok its a long answer but i love talking about it so i will. let's break it down into different parts:

  • "what inspired you to draw": first and foremost i started drawing only because i wanted to see things that weren't being made. stories that weren't being told. the experiences of everyone i know and love, and also my experiences and the experiences i witnessed growing up, i wanted to see them represented in fiction. this has been very hard because it requires me to constantly introspect on my own experiences to figure out what the fuck i'm even talking about it. and then once i have an idea, i start drawing. and writing. i've actually been writing a lot longer than i've been drawing (been writing since age 12, been drawing since age 22 or so) so getting my art to catch up with my writing took a while. and i started drawing because i had Visual Ideas that i had never seen before and also that i didnt want to have to rely on/pay someone else to draw. and the rest is history

  • "very cool queer": almost everyone i know and love is very cool and queer. i am also queer. so, taking into consideration my answer to the previous question, drawing from my experiences and the experiences of my friends basically cant help but result in whatever im drawing becoming very cool and queer.

  • "bugs": bugs are cool. and drawing bug people gives me distinct advantages for conveying the things im trying to convey in fiction using a complex psychic algorithm. thats honestly a whole post on its own but long story short: people dont expect bugs, and when people encounter something they dont expect, it makes them more open to a new experience, which is useful for telling stories about unrepresented identities and peoples.

thank you for the question!! meow!!

I relate to this so much. I feel like I can count on one hand the amount of times I "saw myself" in media when I was young.

This has been used to such great effect in storytelling (Twilight Zone and Maus immediately come to mind) and I really love that you make use of it in your work too!!
