find macro photographs of insect (my favorite source, though he hasnt posted in a few years so there's probably better sources somewhere) and take note of the major shapes and textures. you will notice that, in real life, bugs are really hairy. and also so so beautiful.
do a few drawings for figuring out the basic shapes of insects. they are all shaped very differently, and they all have a lot of interesting physical landmarks to take note of. you'll quickly realize that insects are much weirder than you thought.
at that scale, light and texture are different. color is really vivid. symmetry becomes very important. look up some diagrams showing what each part of the insect actually does, as it will inform the way you draw them.
if you want to draw bugs the way I draw bugs, then take note of those interesting physical landmarks and try to map them on/around a human braincase. now give them cute eyes and a fat ass. and you will be halfway to coelary already
